Douglas R.A. de FreitasPresidentMr. de Freitas has over 22 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry. He began his career in Trinidad W.I working with N.L. Baroid, as a mudlogger and then as a Drilling Technologist. His responsibilities included wellsite geology and an overall review and support of drilling operating procedures. Mr. de Freitas attended N.L. Baroid’s Training facility in Houston, Texas for the program, “Advanced Drilling Technology”. Mr. de Freitas worked for N.L. Baroid for five years in Trinidad, Venezuela and Alberta, Canada both off-shore and on land based rigs. From 1983 to 1988, Mr. de Freitas worked for Geotech Resources in their Production Engineering Research Group, where he was involved in the design and implementation of various in-situ type reservoir studies. Mr. de Freitas also designed, built equipment and operating procedures for various in-situ reservoir displacement studies. From 1988 - 1991, Mr. de Freitas worked for an Alberta based drilling fluid company, Petro-Tech Fluid Systems, designing, building and running innovative “mud systems” throughout Alberta, focusing on reservoir protection and environmental sensitivity. From 1991 - 1993, Mr. de Freitas worked for Chemical and Geological Laboratories in Calgary as a Marketing Representative, specializing in environmental operations. Mr. de Freitas assisted in the design and implementation of several gas and liquid sampling programs at operating facilities, and environmental sampling and analytical programs throughout Western Canada. In the last five years Kaizen has grown to become a full service environmental company with offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie, Alberta, Regina, Saskatchewan and Fort St. John, British Columbia, servicing the energy sector markets in western Canada. In early 1997, Kaizen Environmental Sampling Inc. changed its’ name to Kaizen Environmental Services Inc. to better demonstrate the broad service package that it had developed to support it’s client environmental requirements. Mr. de Freitas recognized that the developing environmental challenges of the coming millennium, coupled with rationalization of the global market and Kaizen’s considerable environmental expertise, offered an opportunity on the companies international experience. A business plan identifying Kaizen’s corporate growth objectives was developed into a strategic plan to optimize a corporate presence internationally. Mr. de Freitas provided the vision and guided the growth of Kaizen to this end and in 1997 Kaizen registered its first independent offshore office in Trinidad, W.I., Kaizen Environmental Services ( Trinidad) Ltd. Kaizen has been operating in Trinidad since 1994, from when it was awarded the largest environmental reclamation project in the region, located at the Brighton Oilfield in southwestern Trinidad. Kaizen has subsequently built a state of the art environmental laboratory in Trinidad and has successfully completed several environmental projects in the areas of contaminated site clean up, air emissions, auditing and laboratory services. Mr. de Freitas continues to pursue the vision of the growth of Kaizen as a leader in providing environmental services in the regions of Western Canada and the Caribbean.
